AEO

Authorised Economic Operator

Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) is a trusted-trader status granted by national customs authorities to importers, exporters, freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers that meet defined criteria around financial solvency, compliance history, record-keeping, and security standards (premises, personnel, cargo, IT systems).

AEO status brings tangible operational benefits: priority customs clearance, fewer physical inspections, lower bond/guarantee requirements, mutual recognition with other AEO regimes (EU, US C-TPAT, Singapore Secure Trade Partnership, GCC). For a high-volume freight forwarder or 3PL, AEO can dramatically reduce clearance friction.
